Simon’s Story *

A Place of Safety

Simon is 59. He is a talented artist who has autism and other disabilities. He is often unwell, but finds that Start is a safe place to come.

“ Going to Start means I get out of the house. it is my only form of activity out of the house. Without Start I would never see the outside world. I am autistic, with other mental and physical disabilities and I lead a very isolated life because I find people stressful. Nevertheless I need to be able to pursue my interest in art and to have some special contact. Start provides the right balance for me with its unique combination of facilities and socially safe environment. My weekly attendance at Start is often the only social contact I have and it means a great deal to me.”
