Jill’s Story *
A New Life
Jill is 38. She has attended Start for 8 years and values her placement very highly. It took many years for her to recover her health, and rebuild her confidence after severe illness. She feels Start has been a key element in this recovery.
“ It’s impossible to overestimate the effect Start has had on me and my life. When I came to Start I was very ill and had just come out of hospital. I was terrified of everything. But the artsts at Start have helped me to achieve things I never thought I was capable of. They’re highly professional, really excellent tutors, and provide a standard of education you simply don’t get in the outside world. I’m at college now, and I’m coping with it very well – in fact I love it – but I know I would never have got there without Start. I can look to the future with optimism now…”
Note: Since first publising Jill ’s story, she has successfully completed an art course at college, and has now gone on to make and exhibit her own work.
